Divider Caliper

This divider caliper was used to measure lengths accurately whether that was for engineers or navigators. It shows us the world before digital technology was introduced. People who used maps used to measure the length of coastlines etc against the scale of the map, or against the latitude. It really differs from the gps navigation systems now easily available in the modern world. Also, probably only educated males in their profession would know how to use this.
