This is a pastel by Vernon Ward, who was a commercial painter from the 1950s. This was not his usual subject - he was better known for painting floral or landscape, particularly Devon, compositions and birds. He studied at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks, and his work can be found on jigsaw puzzles, greetings cards and prints.
