Certificate - Ship's Master

This certificate of Competency as a Master in the Merchant Service was awarded in March 1867 at Caernarfon to Hugh Jones (born Menai Bridge, Anglesey 1839). Hugh Jones was my husband's great grandfather. In 1879, a formal investigation was held at Liverpool into the stranding of the ship Campordown,of which he was then Master. He was found in default, and suspended for 3 months.
His career carried on - and we also have a drawing of a 3-masted ship-rigged sailing vessel, the Cashmere of St Andrews,of which he was Captain at a later point.
