Wooden club from a Polynesian Island

A long gone relative bought lots of items back from his travels. My Grandmother gave me the club forty years ago. I had no idea what it was until I saw a similar one in the Museum of London.
I wish I could go back in time and sail the Pacific with him. Sadly this and other objects lose their context as descriptions are precied by time.
