Greenham capsule

Contributed by John

This peculiar object was given to me as a souvenir during a filming visit in 2001 to the de-commissioned control bunker of the Greenham Common Cruise Missile Base. It's a capsule from the building's pneumatic tube system, that was used to send documents around the bunker - and when-ever I look at it, I'm taken back to the darkest days of the Cold War, when it seemed that a nuclear exchange was inevitable, and that it may well have been a Cruise Missile fired by the Greenham control system that started Armageddon - perhaps this capsule might have held some part of the vital targeting instructions. A truly chilling object in many ways.
