pocket watch

Contributed by Simon Mcintosh

This watch was given to my late Great Aunt Annbella Mackintosh MBE by a German sailor from the Graff Spee who was injured during the Battle of the River Plate 1939. She was working as Matron at the British Hospital Buenos Aires, she was asked to attended the injured on both sides, the Allied sailors went to the Falkland Island and she also assited with Germans, as she showed such kindness the the Germans, one of dying sailors gave her his pocket watch as a thank you gift. She was awarded the MBE for her efforts.
I think this shows that humanity can shine through not what counrty you come from .
The watch was given me at the age of 6, and not knowing any better it fell into the state it's into day
