Out of Africa screening - African Cup of Nations & Kicking Out: Kenya's fight against AIDS

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. In Africa, it could be.

To bring people together to positively celebrate Africa’s premier sporting event, Out of Africa has organised screenings of all the African Cup of Nations games, which is being hosted this year in Ghana.

All screenings are being held from 20th January – 10th February 2008 at Juno Bar (Shoreditch) and 27th January – 10th February Bernie Grant Arts Centre (Seven Sisters).

As part of the final game, Out of Africa is screening “Kicking Out” on Sunday February 10th at both locations. This is an important and inspiring short film looking at how getting involved with sports and in particular football can help people, especially children stay away from a lot of the struggles being poor in Kenya brings.

From the Mathare slum onwards the film journeys across Kenya from kids making their own rag balls out of plastic bags to the Alive and Kicking ball making factory.

Produced by Joe Cogan, Suridh Hassan and Tim Grabham, they have used their creativity to counter the stereotype of poor alienated African children.

Out of Africa is screening all the African Cup of Nations games live at the following venues:

Bernie Grant Arts Centre , Town Hall Approach Road, Tottenham Green, London N15 4RX

Juno Bar , 134-135 Shoreditch High Street, London E1 6JE
