Changing colours in Internet Explorer

This page explains step-by-step how to change the text and background colours in Internet Explorer for OS X

Note: Mac key convention: ' Ctrl ' is used for 'Control', ' Apple ' is used for 'Command' and ' Alt ' is used for the 'Option' key .

Note: For keyboard access make sure ' Full keyboard access ' is turned on - you can turn it on or off; by pressing ' Ctrl ' + ' F1 ' at any time.

Instructions

  1. Click on the ' Explorer ' menu with the mouse and then then click on ' Preferences ' or press ' Apple ' + ' ; ' . (see Fig 1, below)

  1. If you cannot see a list of bulleted options under ' Web Browser' click the arrow next to ' Web Browser' to expand the options list as shown in Fig 2 or highlight ' Web Browser' using the up arrow and then press ' Apple + ' Right arrow ' key to expand the options.
  2. Click the ' Web Content ' section with the mouse or press the down arrow until it is highlighted. (see Fig 2, below).

  1. Next click the button next to Text: as highlighted in Fig 2 above to bring up the Mac OS colour picker (no keyboard shortcut) as shown in Fig 3 below.

  1. Click the bar on the right of the colour picker to change the brightness level of the colour or press ' Tab ' until the slider on the bar is highlighted and use the up and down arrows to change the brightness.
  2. Click on the colour circle to choose a colour - you can also slide around the colours by clicking and holding the mouse down or press ' Tab ' to highlight the spot on the colour circle and press the cursor keys to move around the colour circle.
  3. When you are happy with your colour choice click the ' OK ' button or press ' Enter ' to return to the 'Internet Explorer Preferences ' window.
  4. Repeat the steps 4 - 7 for the ' Background: ' , ' Read Links: ' and ' Unread Links: ' if you want to change those colours .
  5. When you have changed all the colours you want to, uncheck the checkbox next to ' Page specify colors ' as shown in Fig 4 below so the web page will use your colours (no keyboard shortcut).

  1. Click the ' OK ' button or press ' Enter ' on your keyboard to return to Internet Explorer.

Note: If this does not work it could be because your computer settings cannot be changed due to local IT policies - contact your local IT support for further help.
