Safety: on a recce

When you perform a recce ahead of a location shoot, there are several safety factors to take into consideration. Safety expert Stephen Gregory takes us through the right procedure.

You need to make sure that you're safe while you recce, as well as considering safety issues for the shoot itself.

BBC Safety advisor Stephen Gregory recommends using a buddy system, so somebody at the office is aware of where you are, and can raise the alarm if you don't check in at pre-arranged times.

"When you have a buddy arrangement, make sure you stick to it." – Stephen Gregory

He also advises researching the area you're going to be filming in ahead of time. For example, how busy will it be? Will there be pedestrians or vehicles? All of these factors need careful consideration in order to give your shoot the best chance of going smoothly.
