Guest blog: get new skills to boost your career
The BBC Academy is bringing training to BBC staff around the country with BBC Academy on the Road. After recent visits to Cardiff, teams of Academy trainers will be visiting BBC sites throughout 2013, offering a mix of practical courses, masterclasses and one-to-one sessions to show how training can play a part in your career story. This week, Academy Online’s Simon Ford reports back on events in Glasgow.
It’s day two of BBC Academy on the Road in Glasgow – the latest in a series of events that takes the best of what the Academy has to offer to different BBC sites around the UK.
“People are really excited they've got some great training on their doorstep,” says organiser Nina Bhagwat, “and they're not having to schlep all the way to London to do a course. That’s great because everyone has busy lives in production and having that convenience of courses coming out to you has been really welcomed.”
Coral Condeco is a production management assistant at Pacific Quay, BBC Scotland’s impressive headquarters on the banks of the Clyde. She’s been on a camera course for beginners and says the experience has given her the skills and confidence she needs to develop her career as a self-shooting researcher.
“It’s a vital part of the job,” says Coral, “so I'll be able to let my production know that I can do bits and pieces and hopefully I’ll be able to use it and go out on shoots.”
The next event is in Bristol on 29th and 30th April. You’ll be able to pre-book your training session at AcademyontheRoad@bbc.co.uk about three weeks beforehand.
