Live match commentary: Rob Nothman

BBC Radio Sport producer and broadcaster Rob Nothman explains the basic principles of a good commentary.

The best commentators keep reminding the listener of the most important facts:

  • What is the score?
  • What station are they listening to?
  • Where is the ball?
  • Which team is in possession?

If the game’s dull it is the commentator’s job to inject some extra information to keep the audience listening.
