Using Peak Programme Meters

Audio levels

Giles Aspen is a studio manager for Radio 2.

He talks us through the functions of peak programme meters (PPMs).

PPMs enable you to monitor the output levels from your studio - including mono and stereo levels - and to ensure that your levels don't exceed specified limits.

He also illustrates how different kinds of radio content read differently on the meters, using examples from of music from Radio 1 and The Archers from Radio 4.
