Senior Staff: BBC North

  • Alice is responsible for ensuring that the operational infrastructure of BBC North supports the leadership team in engaging audiences in the programmes and activities at BBC North.
  • She is responsible for the overall operational management of the Salford Quays site to ensure that the efficiency and cost benefits of BBC North are delivered.
  • She is a member of the BBC North Board and accountable for decisions made by that Board.
  • She chairs the Business, Operations and Finance meetings held at Salford Quays.
  • She deputises for Director BBC North on operational issues affecting the site.

Salary and total remuneration: August 2011

Salary: £180,000
Total remuneration: £187,800

The increase in salary from previously published figures reflects the fact that Alice has increased her working hours from 4 days a week to 5 days a week.

Alice Webb is Chief Operating Officer for BBC North. Alice took on this role in July 2011 having previously been Project Director for BBC North from April 2009. Alice leads the multi-disciplinary team responsible for the biggest move in the BBC's history; creating all aspects of BBC North from technology, people, workspace, migration and future ways of working. She is responsible for ensure the departments moving to Salford are fit for purpose and able to take advantage of the move and all the opportunities it affords them.

Previously, Alice has fulfilled several key project roles in the BBC including being the Project Director for a major transformation programme within BBC Vision, who make some of the BBC's most popular shows like Doctor Who and Strictly Come Dancing, which looked at the whole creative ecology and operating model for the department. Alice was also Programme Manager for the BBC's Value for Money programme in 2005/6.

Prior to joining the BBC, Alice spent five years with PA Consulting Group, leading business change programmes with a wide range of major organisations such as Orange, Reuters, The Cabinet Office and Deutsche Bank. Alice is a chartered Civil Engineer and started her career with Mott MacDonald Ltd, gaining five years experience, both in the UK and overseas, planning and implementing a wide range of water supply and wastewater projects.

Alice graduated from Liverpool University with a Masters Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 1995 and is a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. Alice and her family relocated to the North West of England in July 2011.

Expenses are costs incurred by BBC staff on behalf of the BBC and claimed through the BBC's expenses system (e-expenses). Central bookings are costs incurred on behalf of the BBC and booked through the BBC's central bookings system. Both expenses and central bookings are published every three months.
