  • He is accountable for the communications strategy, media relations, corporate and public affairs, public relations and programme publicity, and all staff communications.
  • He provides strategic support and specialist communications advice to the Director-General and Executive Board.
  • Paul is a member of the BBC Direction Group.

Biography

Paul Mylrea is the BBC's Director of Communications.

Before joining the BBC in 2010, Paul was Communications Director for the Department for International Development (DFID) with responsibility for all communications, including media, ministerial communications, web and e-comms, stakeholder engagement, marketing and internal communications. Paul also created the Department's first strategic communications planning team.

He has previously worked as Director of Media Relations at Transport for London, where he led communications around the 2005 bomb attacks, and was also Head of Media for Oxfam.

He began his career in local newspapers in Manchester and Southend before joining Reuters, where he worked in a range of roles including European Correspondent, Bureau Chief, Chile, Bolivia and Peru, and UK Political Correspondent.

He is past President of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and a visiting fellow at Bournemouth University's Media School.

Expenses are costs incurred by BBC staff on behalf of the BBC and claimed through the BBC's expenses system (e-expenses). Central bookings are costs incurred on behalf of the BBC and booked through the BBC's central bookings system. Both expenses and central bookings are published every three months.

This information if published annually, although if any amendments are made during the year an updated summary will be published if necessary as soon as it is available.
