Senior Staff: BBC North

  • Ken leads the Human Resources team and is responsible for the overall HR direction and leadership to meet the medium to long-term strategic objectives for BBC North.
  • He is responsible for delivering all HR services to the division, including training and development, recruitment, reward, diversity, employment policy and organisation design.
  • He works in partnership with HR Shared Services to ensure ongoing delivery of daily HR operational support.
  • Ken is a member of the BBC North Board.

Biography

Ken comes from Burnley, Lancashire and is responsible for the people who will work at BBC North at MediaCityUK. He is in charge of planning and implementing the migration of BBC staff from sites in London and Manchester, including the relocation of around 1,500 roles from London to Salford. Ken is also responsible for the large scale external recruitment underway for BBC North and he is working with the business leadership team to develop new organisation structures and new ways of working for the BBC at MediaCityUK.

Ken joined the BBC in 2008 from the private sector and he previously worked in senior human resources roles for a number of major companies, including, British Airways, Cadbury, Halifax and HBOS. During his career Ken has worked across the UK and Europe. Ken spent five years working for British Aerospace and was BAe HR representative on the Eurofighter 2000 Project Team. This involved working on complex human resources issues to deliver the project with colleagues in Germany, Italy and Spain. For example, harmonising training and development for technical staff in all four partner nations. Ken began his career as a general management trainee with Cadbury Schweppes.

Ken studied Law and Philosophy at Oxford University and is keen on playing sport and watching Manchester United.

Expenses and central bookings

Expenses are costs incurred by BBC staff on behalf of the BBC and claimed through the BBC's expenses system (e-expenses). Central bookings are costs incurred on behalf of the BBC and booked through the BBC's central bookings system. Both expenses and central bookings are published every three months.
