Ian took up the new role of Director of Finance and Sports Rights in August 2010. Ian's responsibilities as Finance Director for the new division of BBC North, incorporating BBC Sport, Childrens, Radio 5 Live, Future Media and Breakfast TV are to manage the financial and business affairs of BBC North and to ensure that it delivers against the corporate objectives of the BBC. Ian is also responsible for the negotiation of all sports rights for the BBC to ensure that the spread of sport delivers against the audience aspirations of the country.
Ian is a Fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, with extensive public sector management experience. Before joining the BBC Ian was the deputy Chief Executive at the North West Development Agency, where, among his responsibilities, he led on the economic regeneration of Cumbria.
Ian was Pro Vice Chancellor at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) from 1999 until 2003. For 11 years Ian was UCLAN'S Finance Director, having been appointed as the country's youngest ever University Finance Director in 1988 to help establish UCLan as an independent Higher Education Corporation, having been previously run by the County Council.
Ian lives in Preston and was proud to lead the advisory group, which worked across the political and business spectrum, on the successful campaign for Preston to be awarded City status in 2002 – when Preston beat 26 other bids to win the awarding of city status as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.

Declaration of personal interests
Staff must make a declaration of their personal and business interests, including any memberships or directorships of public or industry bodies, and any shareholdings, as well as any interests that their immediate families may also have.
A summary is published where there is something to declare and where there is nothing to declare. Occasionally an individual will have something to declare but due to the personal nature of the declaration we do not publish details as to do so would breach the Data Protection Act.
This information is published annually, although if any amendments are made during the year an updated summary will be published if necessary as soon as it is available.
