jeremy, barnstaple

Ryan Hopwood : Cheltenham
steve love your show almoast as much as your part in hot fuzz please can you play the blackbird song by the wurzels as they beat the ass off of any band that cowell can produce cheers then ps you could also play that tune again by that bird from scandinavia again with those words (do you talk through the middle of seinfeld etc etc)in the middle of it, remember it cuz i cant. as is for your mixtape i suggest either ive been loved by the best by don williams or pussy hole by dizzy rascal . hope you take these in to consideration as they are actually without any thought the best songs ever
David, Weston Super Mare
True Love Waits - Radiohead
kate,Bangor
Hows about Cupid covered by Amy Winehouse at glasto?
Sarah, Las Vegas, NV
I know it sounds cheesy, but "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and Air Supply's "Making Love Out of Nothing At All" are great make-out songs.
Darren, Halesowen,west midlands
Its much much easier to find a deaf girl to date.
tom, sutton
thanks steve this compliation has helped me pull many a bird and im sure you've had the same luck you player!
john dredge, UKville
is john shuttleworth stephen's father?
Lauren, Toronto, Ontario
I have to applaud the Bright Eyes song... "My Lady's House" by Iron and Wine always gets me, and anything by Frank Sinatra.
Sharon, London
David Bowie's "Wild Is The Wind" .... or Neil Diamond's "PLAY ME" -- play it over and over again !!
Billy, Birmingham
Dunno if anyone else has suggested this, but 'are you the one (i've been waiting for?)' by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds was a damn good one.
Dominic Brogan, Ballymena
Can i put forward "Turn On Me" by The Shins as the ultimate song of this ilk. The line "you had to know that i was fond of you, fond of Y.O.U." should be enough to melt the hardest of hearts and crucially it never sounds cheesy!
Mick, Galway
Poison Cup by M.Ward, might add a little edge.
Jeff, Seattle
"Naive Melody, " Talking Heads. The only really romantic (if in a geeky vein) they did.
Shanna, Vancouver, Canada
It was great to hear some Beirut on the last show, the entire Gulag Orkestar album has a mediterranean vibe that puts my head somewhere far off, it's brilliant- 1 musician/vocalist from New Mexico with massive talent. With that in mind I greatly recommend Postcards From Italy as light on its feet, nostalgic, swoon-worthy music.
Danny, Leeds
Have any of these worked for you steve? Hope they have!
Jon, Wales
Paul Weller with you do something to me.
Josh, Jersey City, NJ
I could not seduce a woman to this tape because I would be too focused on holding down the vomit.
David Milne Long Ashton Bristol 07732488816
you'll need Wichita Lineman on there Stephen.
Ed High wycombe
I disagree strongly. Once i was is a brilliant song, and it works on a sort of a primal love basis "once i was a hunter, and i brought home fresh meat for you". So its a song about cavemen...? seriously though, i love this song. good choice.
Richard Doughty, Saddleworth
What about Richard Hawley :Darlin, from the album before last
Karl Gilbert, London
Gwen McCrae - Classic!Nick Drake - Very good.Aqualung - So so...U2 - Ridiculous.
Hamworthy, Berkhamsted
Dusty Springfield, 'Some of your loving'. If that special lady hasn't surrendered to your charms by the time this track ends, you'd better check you haven't gone home with a ladyboy.
Beatrice, London
How upsetting to see that the John Martyn song you have chosen is Sweet Little Mystery - you give no credit to John Martyn nor to the woman (women?) you plan to woo with this seduction compilation. Your only saving grace is to delete Sweet Little Mystery and replace it with either of the following: Couldn't Love You More; Go Easy; Head and Heart; Go Down Easy; Solid Air. Seriously!
Pedro, London
My wife adores that Candi Staton song (I've just stuck it on and she's warbling away to it now in the other room...), and Northern Sky is just beautiful. Serge Gainsbourg adds some decadent sultry charm, though if you go on to do a 'Now That I've Got You Back To Mine' compilation, then 'La Decadance' could prove more of a winner (if she speaks French!). If I could only add one song though, it'd be Uncertain Times by The Raveonettes, for the whole slow-motion passion and atmosphere thingy, and for the lines "And if the atom bomb should end us both, I'll be happy to go to the stars with you"...
John, Birmingham
Need to have 'Beautiful Day' by 3 Colours Red.Also Ryan Adams' version of 'Wonderwall'Must check out some of these choices though, sounds interesting.
kate- london
Sorry but where is Barry?!!? When I read the strap line on this link my first and single thought....Barry White. When it comes to seduction he IS THE man. Possibly obvious but incredibly effective...! xx
David pexton New york
U2 - sweetest thing? You've got to be joking. it's a terrible song. Simply terrible.
Darryl,Scunthorpe
Am liking the inclusion of NIck Drake and bright eyes, what about dear chicago by Ryan Adams and Parrallel Lines by King of Convenience
Archie, Nottingham
I'm with Lucy, a man and woman can do romance - but add a bit of edge and passion, nicey nice doesnt always do it, so you add some Grinderman, Go Tell The Women
Liz, Bedfordshire
Adolescent Sex by Japan - ummm - maybe that is just because it reminds me of when I was an adolescent having sex though.
Jeff, Streatham, London SW16
How about "More Love" by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles & "Don't You Pay Them no Mind" by Nina Simone...you won't find a better declarations of love than those two songs!
Asia Esterak, Los Angeles, Ca
Make Love by Daft Punk...I certainly want to while listening to it.
Wallasey/Merseyside
you've gota put Stephen Fretwell - Emily on their, its a beautiful song.
Oliver Suggitt
You should have picked A perfect Sonnet for a Bright Eye's track.
emma, leeds
Something off curtains by tindersticks, the whole album and beautiful and sexy. Also mercry rev with that dreamy quality, makes me melt. You're my Queen would be good..
Grant from Bournemouth
Well, it's not looking bad. But you really need to think about having a Joy Division track!
Nick, Nijmegen
Dion - Born To Be With You. If that don't work, nothing will.
Misty, New Orleans, LA
At least you got one Buckley on this tape, but it should have been Jeff's Lover, You Should've Come Over. The line..." a kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder" would transport her out of her clothes and into your arms. It would work for me anyway.
J.Levy, St.Albans
JJ Cale - Cherry ...They dont come as sweet as that... :0)
Andy, Sunderland
Kings of Leon "milk" or Velvet Underground "pale blue eyes". Brilliant tracks that would pray on the emotions of any red blooded female.
Celene /South London
Here is a suggestion to add a bit of Va-Va-Voom. How's about Leave your hat on by Joe Cocker. Remember that dance Kim Basinger did in Nine and a half weeks. It always makes me want to take somthing off xxx
Diana, Brighton
Breathe Me by Sia. Beautiful and sexy sad.
Kel - San Francisco
How about Art of Noise - Moments In Love? Thats always done it for me.
Lucy, Clerkenwell (the same as before!)
Don't get me wrong, I do like a bit of romance and gentle-loving, but sometimes us girls like a bit of filth. I think the B-side could be the 'darker side' to all the sunny love songs on the A-side. Nine Inch Nails's 'Closer' would be a great addition...
Andy/Nottingham
What about the Lord of all that is floppy-haired and silk. Peter Frampton's Baby, I Love Your Way. Ditch the U2 as it's bit bent.
Chris, Maribor
ohhhh, you need some Smokey Robinson in there or maybe John Edwards' version of 'Tinman'
Darren, Kent
The Cure 'Catch' is bang on old boy. I agree with the rest of Christendom, purge the horror that is U2. Replace it with The pretenders Hymn to Her mnya mnya ysee? ysee? mnya.
Maryn, Amsterdam
I've always liked: Pete Townshend's "Let My Love Open The Door" (also on the Grosse Pointe Blank Soundtrack). How's about adding that one to the B-side of your seduction compilation, Steve?
Carrie Tierney, Kingston
How about adding something unusually romantic like The Jam's English Rose? Beautiful.
Asia Esterak, Los Angeles, Ca
Adore by Prince and If I was your girlfriend by Prince too!
lisa/maine, united states
leonard cohen - suzanne; she feeds you tea and oranges, all the way from china. that's seduction deduction.
Gordon Miller In Edinburgh
"we belong together" Rickie Lee Jones, from the album "Pirates", should be on this compilation, as owning an even playing this album, shows that you may be more complex than they originally thought, and the Ladies love that.
Laura, Manchester
Never underestimate the power of a good compilation. My boyfriend gave me an excellent CD on our first date, and I've stuck around for two years since. May I suggest 'Two Seconds of your Love' by Laura Cantrell.I'm not sure if i approve of the addition of U2.
Tina Bergérus, Skepplanda, Sweden
I think the Julie London-song would have been enough to seduce me, but then again, I'm pretty easily seduced. But I don't think U2 fits there...
Katy, New York
This compilation is near perfection, I just wouldn't of went with u2 because there are far better love songs out there
Keith, London
Good call Lucy, though the last person I made a mix tape for just lost their cassette playing abilities..Avoid anything by Snowpatrol, unless maybe it's off When It's All Over We Still Have To Clean Up.Add Kings of Convenience - Toxic Girl
Natalie, Toronto, Canada
"Please forgive me" by David Gray worked on me! That bit about "lightening through my veins" was the clincher.
Louisa Corr, Doha, Qatar
Hey Stephen!Counting cows should be involved! :-)
Lawrence - Johannesburg
bryan ferry - slave to love....
Russtti Gaynor ... Finchley, London, N3
Some tasty tracks picked out here, I think. Especially the late, great Minnie Riperton with a single which followed up her "Lovin' You" mega-hit in 1975. Gwen McCrae, very underrated in the UK throughout her career. Candi Staton's emotional vocals can never be mistaken, no matter what she sings, thus making this lady unique.I'm going to add "Try Some, Buy Some", from 1971, release in the UK on Apple, featuring the sensational Ronnie Spector. The flip is called "Tandoori Chicken" and I'm more than a little thankful that I still have a mint copy of that original release. Truly awesome lady with an equally awesome voice and an excellent single which deserved more promoing than it got back in 1971.Russtti Gaynor {260507}Finchley, London, N3
nesbit, Leeds
where, WHERE is the Rev Green, pitty the fool..
Emma, Montecito
You had me at...Case of You.
Jean Caffeine Austin, TX
Breathe on Me by Ronnie wood is a good one, Miles Davis Kind of Blue also works for me
Emily, London
Oooh no, far too soppy and acoustic and stereotypically 'girly'. You want some action with a real red-blooded woman, you've got to get something a bit more aggressive on there. I'd just want to go and weep into some embroidery after listening to this lot.
Simon, Maidenhead
Steve, my colleague has bulging eyes and she's still quite attractive. Want me to put you in touch?
Chrissy London
Hi StephenI love the Seduction compilation! It's not toooo cheesy which makes it credible, It would definitely tug at my heart strings. I am nursing a broken heart after splitting up with my boyfriend of four years, but am slowly trying to move on with my life. However I am finding it heart to meet nice men! Where are they all? All I seem to meet is cocky city boys, with over gelled hair and a sales man disposition. My friends and I would love to meet someone like you, where do people like you hang around and how can I attract them?
Clare, Walthamstow
If someone played - (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson to me, I think I would immediately agree to spend the rest of my life with them.
joe vancouver
where the lutha vandros
RKC, Brentford, London
The bits of it I'm familiar with sound good; I've never heard any Aqualung, as I've always thought it sounds a bit like a medical condition. I'd like to see 'I Love You' by G Love and Special Sauce on there though.
Jo, Glasgow , Scotland.
Fab cassette compilation - Drake tops it totally - will always love that tune. Think there should be The Smiths 'there is a light that never goes out' (but then i was once wooed by 'girlfriend in a coma' - I'm not one for patience strong poetry in mass produced cards always do it yourself with crayons, card and a home made cassettes of top tunes ...
Lucy, Clerkenwell
Thank the Lord there's no Snow Patrol ... that would make me run for the door. Depeche Mode's 'It's No Good' would, however, get me in the mood faster than you can say 'would you swoon?'. It's dark, perverted and soooooo sexy...
Ellen form the US
Snow Patrol? Morrisey? No, I think not. How about Sam Cooke (Bring On Home To Me, The Riddle Song, etc.) Now, he made many women swoon!
Frances, Melbourne, Australia
Steve, Steve, Steve ... you could just include anything by Francoise Hardy (eg Le temps de l'amour) and sit back and watch your dating calendar fill to overflowing.
Bob H / Montreal
What a great schmorgasboard of musical tallent, just needs a touch of the Tom McRae in there. Only proplem is, with so many songs there is no way it will fit on a c90, and anything longer would just chew in the deck.
Edgar, Cheltenham
You should substitute the U2 for Hope Eternal's selection on your last show, Sundae Club's "Stuff" !
Kate
Marvin Gaye...?
Marie, Ft.Lauderdale US
It's sealed with Nick Drake for sure...Loving the mix so far, I am seduced ;)
Jo, London
If someone played me U2 to get me into bed, I'd put my knickers back on quicker than you can say "Boring twat with sunglasses and a stupid hat."
Daniel, Gold Coast Australia
I see where your going with this. Very nice Steve. I too however would have given the U2 track a miss myself. I like the song and all but her knickers are only about 40% down on that one.. and with the threat of them not making it the rest of the way. It's a unnecessary risk is all I'm saying Steve.
Olly, Salisbury
Such great heights by the Postal Service..even writing it makes me feel a bit predatory
jonny, southport
my girlfriend was none too pleased when i ended a compilation for here with big bottom by spinal tap. so not that then.
Kelly, Canada
I saw Northern Sky and thought "this is going to be a good one" but when I got to "the sweetest thing" it was a bit of a WTF. The sexiest man on earth could not lure me with that song. I would suggest John Hiatt- Feels Like Rain, or Maroon 5 Secret or John Lee Hooker's Annie Mae
Jay, Paris
Wouldn't get you anywhere with my lady, Steve. You'd have to break out the Whitney for that to happen (Aaaa-eee-yyy-aaa-yyy will allwaays luuurrvve youuu-wah-ouu). For shame.
Rebecca, Monmouthshire
You've got to have "Straight to You" by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. It is an uncommonly slushy ballad. Can this be the same guy who put together Grinderman?
james, norwich
yep, i would.
Fran, Cambridge
My first thought was "Ship Song" by Nick Cave too. A little piece of beautiful perfection. If she's anything like me though, the lovely lady in question might incapable of anything after hearing it...
Bart, Holland
Into My Arms by Nick Cave!
David, London
How. How!!! Can you follow Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell with that ridiculous U2 song. Boyzone are in the video for cocks sake! Still, other than that, it good!
Anne, Tucson, AZ
Hey where's the soul in the seduction? How about Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" and Doris Troy's "Just One Look"?
Emily McBean, London
ok, but you have to have Mazzy Star 'Bright as Yellow' on it, the track to loose your heart to. I fell in love over this song. Play it! xx
Gary, Middlesbrough
Too much effort; A small amount of Gamma Hydroxide Butyrate and you could play whatever you want.
Kate, Bath
As a girl who was well and truly caught by the power of the compilation tape, my vote goes to (Smog)'s Dress Sexy at my Funeral - unconventional I know, but a song which still resonates 6+ years on!
tim manc
into my arms nick cave+the bad seeds
James, London
A song I've wooed a few ladies with is 'Buttercup' by Brad - shows the sensitive side before you blast some Queens of the Stone Age at them!...
Neil, Edinburgh
Few goodies on there, but U2? C'mon, what right minded female is gonna fall for the thought of a Leather trouser clad Bono? Not one you'd want anyway. Rewind the tape and wipe over it with 'Love gets Dangerous' by Billy Bragg. Just totally brilliant, one man, one guitar and some fantastic lyrics:Like a drug that threatens to take my lifeLust is a cancer, love is a viceWhen she holds me I understandRespect and fear go hand in handNo need to act toughIt scares me just enough. If I was a girl, it'd do it for me. I'm a boy, but it still does.Cheers.
Mish, Stockport
If you take the (dire) U2 off you might get better results, depends what your after really....
Lucy, Manchester (The same one as before :D)
Also, how about a bit of paolo nutini?I'm thinking "Lovin' You" ... if that's not oo graingly obvious.xxx
David, Melbourne, Australia
Perhaps also something tasteful by Akinyele.
Jessica, Cleveland, US
It's a bit more subtle than the likes of "First Day Of My Life," but I'd recommend "Parasol" by The Sea and Cake. Or, if you really want to make a woman melt in a hurry, "Don't Bring Me Down" by Sia. Lucy's correct - guys, this is how it should be done.
steph darkes, croydon
why on earth would you want to put u2 on it?how about van morrison's 'sweet thing' instead...
Mike, Melbourne Australia
you can't go past "Cherish" by Kool & the Gang, it would melt a titanium heart
April from the US
I definitely would. ;)
Lucy, Manchester
As if the Nick Drake wasn't enough ... this list is near-perfection.Dear lord. Any woman with a taste in music will simply fall at your feet. In a good way xxx
Grace, Sussex
I think a bit of dramatic moulin rouge elephant love melody would get even the coldest heart melting, and if you really felt like making a prat of yourself you could put it on loudly, mime along (McGregor style) and make a scene in the office so she felt obliged to say yes to a date.
Emma, Dorking
snow patrol- chasing cars- i personally go weak at the knees at that song
Vikki, Kent
Jolene....not by Dolly, but by the bearded love machine - Mr Ray La Montagne. Even his name sounds romantic - 'la montagne', ooo la la.......would that be Ray The Mountain is english?
Mas, Kidderminster
What about Morrissey's "You're the one for me, fatty" , or Barenaked Ladies' "Call Me Calmly" or ... wait... (checks the lyrics... ah, _that_ explains why I'm not exactly a Casonova with the ladies... ) Maybe a bit of Crowded House, "It's only natural" ?Why am I getting the feeling that you're making this tape for guys like me?Ho hum. At least I didn't suggest Talking Head's "psycho Killer" :-)
Jason Reid Canterbury
Love street - World Party
Becky, East London
Sexy Motherf***er by the man of the moment - Prince. My boyfriend gave me a copy once, along with 'be my wife' by Bowie. Yeah, I'm not leaving him in a hurry!
Nicki, London
Get some Stevie Wonder in there and I'm yours..
Dylan, London
Depends on the woman really though, doesn't it? For instance, my wife likes "Chicago - The Musical." I predict we will be divorced soon.
Simon, Amsterdam
Good mix except for the U2 song
Simon, Leeds
Half Man Half Biscuit's 'Trumpton Riots' ep works wonders - sorts the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.
Amanda, London
My hubby's first ever compilation tape he did for me included Rolf Harris' stylophone demo track and Mike Read singing "The Ugly Duckling" along with some Roy Harper. Bless!
Jason, Ealing, London
You need to get some Prince in there. Not to use the word lightly, the guy's a genius. How about Adore? Works much better than Smack My Bitch Up at any rate.
Paulus - London
Take off your clothes by Peter Sarstedt - that's always a winner!
Kate, Toronto Canada
hmmmm- maybe the Reindeer Section with Cartwheels, Everybody Here Wants You by Jeff Buckley and Parentheses by The Blow? Oh- The Ship Song by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is well swoon-worthy.
Neil, Liverpool
All quality tunes, particularly Northern Sky which for me and the missus is 'our' song. I'd recommend 'Magic In The Air' by Badly Drawn Boy, 'Baby I Need Your Loving' by The Four Tops and 'Jealous Guy' by John Lennon.
Will, London
I've always found the relaxing grooves of Add N To (X)'s 'Metal Fingers In My Body' to be a powerful aphrodisiac. If the lady in question isn't fully prepped after that, Jay-Z's '99 Problems' is a one-way ticket to Sexy Town.I should add that my moves are usually enough.
Kirsty, Brighton
You have to include 'Go Down Easy' by John Martyn.Draw your own conclusions bout the title, but it is the most awesomely sexy song! (It's on 'Solid Air' - but you possibly know that?!)Cheers
Benj Nelson / London
I would say The Cure's Just Like Heaven would be a better song to woo the ladies rather than Catch, as Catch has a line about rolling around waking up sore... a bit forward I think.
Jonah Jones Bermuda
No Eels?!No Pixies?!No Counting crows?!No Daniel Johnston?!No Tom Waits?!No Leonard Cohen? No Lloyd Cole?!No Amos Lee?!No Shawn Mullins?!No good lovin" for you Stevie Boy!!!
Anna, Vienna.
I was sold at Nick Drake...
SJB - Herts
Could do with a bit of Barry White in my opinion... but then that is just my opinion
Amy, London
Stephen, Will you marry me?
Dave, Bristol
Is Let's Get It On a bit too direct?
Abbie from Cheltenham
You have got to add Bigstar's 'Thirteen' to the seduction tape!
Amy, Norwich
There should totally be some Spiritualized on here. Anyone who isn't seduced by Stop Your Crying or, even more to the point, stay with me. What beautiful songs...
paudie from cork ireland
u2's " with or without you" or "all i want is you" are far better love song that the sweetest thing
Lucy, London
Men everywhere should take note, you want that lovely lady, this is the way to get her. If only the men I meet would have this idea.Of course it helps if she is a music obsessive, if shes queueing at topshop for Kate Moss vests, maybe she isnt ;)
tom, london
you need some jeff buckleyladies love jeff
