The Agenda
Are You A Gamer?

On The Music Week this Sunday we’re exploring the explosion in music based computer games. No doubt many of you will have spent an evening in a state of “refreshment” gathered around a games console and living out those dreams of rock and roll excess in front of Singstar, Rock Band or Guitar Hero.
Gaming
For those yet to discover the joy of these gig based games they essentially see you warbling or playing along to rock and pop classics and scoring points based on your ability. If you’ve managed to avoid them thus far you’ve done well. The sales figures involved are huge. To date the Guitar Hero series has racked up over 14 millions sales, Singstar 12 million and Rock Band 3 million.

It’s not only music based games that are building a connection with the record industry, games such as Grand Theft Auto and the Fifa football series increasingly pride themselves on their in game music selection and signing up the best new acts to contribute to their games.

On the show we’ll find out how computer games have become a marketing tool for bands and whether gaming is driving kids towards real music but what do you think?

Are you a devotee of music based games? Are they a great way to socialize or, should people find better things to do with their time like play a real instrument?

Video games are great if you have loads of spare time, little imagination, fewer friends, and a great way of indulging borderline psychotic fantasy.'Gaming' for adults is on a par with nappies for adults; fetishised and just plain odd really. Bit like a 40-year old on a skateboard that hangs out wiv da kidz in the skatepark.

Computer games are a way to create your own media... music, TV and film is broadcast at you; the music that's on the games is irrelevent
