Rumours about which musicians may be asked to play at the 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony have been circulating the music business for months but now Sir Paul McCartney has revealed he’s meeting organisers today (20th Jan), to discuss what his role might be.
Speaking at a press conference in London for his new album ‘Kisses On The Bottom’ yesterday (19th Jan), Macca told BBC 6 Music that nothing has been confirmed but he has been approached to appear.
"Well I’ve got to be asked, remember," he explained.
"You just don’t ring up a guy and say, ‘I’m coming on the Olympics!’ In fact, I am seeing the guy tomorrow, funnily enough cos there is something they want me to do.
"I think they’ll tend to dictate it, rather than me. I might be doing something in the Olympics. I won't know until tomorrow."
The Beatles legend also revealed that he’s considering performing as part of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, taking place in early June.
"I might," he said.
"I think people are starting to talk about it now. So it has been mentioned. I’m a big fan of the Queen. I think she is great and I think she does a great job.
"People say, 'Ugh, the monarchy and all that'. And I say, ‘Yeah, but what are you going to get in return? You'll get like, David Cameron.’ I mean much as we may love him I'm not sure I want him to represent the whole of Britain. Anyway, so if I get asked I could easily do it."
