An emotional Lily Allen scored a hat trick at the Ivor Novello Awards this afternoon (May 20). The singer picked up Most Performed Work and Best Song Musically and Lyrically for her single 'The Fear'.

She and co-writer Greg Kurstin also won Songwriters of the Year for Allen's album 'It's Not Me, It's You'.

Wiping away tears as she reached the stage, Allen said: "Thank you, I'm trying so hard to hold it together. This song is so much about feeling so lost...it has made me feel quite found all of a sudden."

Earlier as she arrived for the London ceremony, Allen confessed she still regards her songs as "nursery rhymes".

When asked whether winning the awards would make her reconsider her 'retirement', she said she was still writing songs for other people and would love to write a song for Lady Gaga.

"This song is so much about feeling so lost...it has made me feel quite found all of a sudden."

Noel Gallagher was also at the ceremony, to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to Paul Weller, who has found success across three decades with The Jam, the Style Council and his acclaimed solo work.

Gallagher was on hand to congratulate Smith's guitarist Johnny Marr with a hug as he walked to the stage to pick up the Inspiration Prize.

The guitar legend, who is currently working with The Cribs, told the audience: "I always thought that the greatest thing you can achieve as a musician is to be called an inspiration - aside from a big house in Sunningdale obviously."

Other winners included Imogen Heap, Paulo Nutini and Bat For Lashes, for the song Daniel.

The song's writer, Natasha Khan, said she was "shocked" to have won: "Who would have thought that when I was sitting in my pyjamas in my bed writing this song, I would be standing here?"
