Eagles of Death Metal support Arctic Monkeys on their arena tour

Arctic Monkeys played their home town Sheffield last night as part of their arena tour, which kicked off on Friday.

The gigs are in support of their latest album Humbug, which was released in the summer and it's been up to Eagles of Death Metal to provide support on the road.

The connection between the two bands is of course Josh Homme, a former member of Eagles of Death Metal and close friend of their frontman Jesse Hughes. Homme was also recruited to produce Arctic Monkeys' latest album Humbug.

Jesse Hughes was privy to the recording of Humbug and had this to say about the sessions, which took place in Los Angeles and the Mojave Desert: "They [Arctic Monkeys] knew what they wanted. Joshua is one of the finest producers in the world and he handles it the way we all handle it, like scientists.

"That’s what it was it was like, a group of scientists handling the atom bomb but this time it was the bomb, the hit bomb. Music!"

Humbug was released in August and went straight to number one in Britain selling 96,000 copies in its first week of release. Jesse Hughes had this to say about Arctic Monkey’s achievements so far: "Surrealistic, strange and gargantuan geniuses of music. I don't know how else to say it but they really blow my mind for lack of a better term.

"Alex is a dark lord of rock but every other member of the band is just as big in their own way. It's pretty wild to see such youth have command of such evil power."

The Arctic Monkeys have 14 more UK arena shows scheduled this month including two dates at Wembley Arena on the 17th and 18th of November. With Jesse and Co. in tow, it sounds like they will need some recovery time at the end of it all: “I would say I know for certain that I intend to bring as much of The Devil into the room as I possibly can because this aint a bible study this is rock and roll, said the inimitable Hughes.

"When I am done with that tour I want those boys to spend four days in a rehab just to get their heads straight."
