Former Smiths frontman Morrissey stopped a concert halfway through his second song after being hit by a beer bottle in Liverpool.
During the song Black Cloud, the 50-year-old was hit in the eye by a plastic bottle of beer.
The singer said goodnight to the 8,000 strong crowd before walking off.
"Some people were complaining afterwards because he's been in the game for years and he should be used to it by now."
Iain Kavanagh, fan at the gig.
He'd opened the concert with Smiths' hit This Charming Man. Eyewitnesses say he was moving towards the fans at the front of the stage to shake hands when the bottle was hurled.
After he walked off stage, fans burst into chants of "Morrissey, Morrissey, Morrissey".
But five minutes later fans were told that he would not be returning to the stage - the news was greeting by a chorus of boos.
Fans who attended the gig have been advised to get in touch with ticket vendors to find out if they will get their money back.
Jay Silker, 27, from Mossley Hill, Liverpool, said: "If there's ever a singer who would not take kindly to a bottle being thrown at him, it's Morrissey."
Iain Kavanagh, 33, from Liverpool, said: "Some people were complaining afterwards because he's been in the game for years and he should be used to it by now."
"But he's a 50-year-old man who has just been ill and he deserves better than that."

I think I am more upset by Marco's comment than I am at missing the gig!!

I’ve been going to concerts for years and witnessed many objects being thrown on stage and within the audience. One thing you have to ask yourself is. What was the liquid? The liquid could have been anything from water, beer or even urine. Lets face it, when your in a crowd, at a concert, and you’ve had a few to drink beforehand. The last thing the less caring of individuals is going to do is leave the spot where they are standing and go to the toilet. No, what they do is use the next best thing to hand as a receptacle to collect whatever. The more thoughtful person will dispose of the contents by emptying it onto the floor. Unfortunately, the less thoughtful will throw it, either towards the stage or into the audience. Think about this next time your sprayed with liquid at a concert? Good on you Morrissey for walking off stage. Command the respect you deserve.

I was at the gig. I have been a fan of moz for years and was devastated when he cancelled the show as had travelled down from Glasgow. I understand why he walked off buts surely after 30 years in the Business he could have dusted himself off and got on with it ...unless he was injured of course.Though its more than fair that refunds have been offered, I personally want to see a full gig. Lots of people like myself would have paid a lot of money to travel and see him only to have it ruined by one silly person. Moz is my hero and I want to see him live.

I was there, it was made of plastic and glanced the side of his head. If he was too unwell to be there he should have cancelled beforehand. It is disgraceful that he did not come back on and play to the thousands of fans who had come from all over the country to see him. As a lifelong Smiths fan my opinion of him as now changed. I will never go and see him live again.

I don't see why anyone should have to put up with beer bottles being thrown at them while on stage. I also don't see why the audience should get a refund. If they want their money back then get a lawyer and sue the idiot who threw the bottle.

No,Iain, NO ONE SHOULD BE USED TO BEING HIT IN THE FACE on or off stage. You people have lowlife standards. Put yourself in his shoes and wonder how unsettling it would feel. Witnessed Chris Robinson during a hard rockin' Black Crowes set get hit full on with a 32.oz beer. The band exited and eventually came back 20 minutes laterto finish the set. I wouldn't have. I was right infront and people raised their arms and pointed to the guy as the biker built security moved in and grabbbed him. You should have seen the kicks going down on this guy by the audience as he was dragged though the crowd. His shirt was ripped off and he was tossed out the fire exit into the wintery alley to thunderous applause. It isn't TV! so wake up next time yu think about abusing the artist onstage. Bad time to be a performer/artist. Bad biz, file sharing, abusive 'fans'. Who needs it? Lets here it for Morrisey (loud applause here).

Poor Morrissey...I dont blame him!
Marco, Hull
Who is Morrisey, please?
Nick, London
What kind of 'fans' pay to go to a gig then hurl bottles at the star of the show?! I'd have been disappointed if I was there and only got a song and a half, but I'd blame the bottle thrower - not the guy who got hit in the face by it!
Nick, Cardiff
He does deserve better than that BUT only 1 person threw the beer botle....there were 7,999 others who were robbed of their hard earned money. I know of some people who travelled 250 miles to see him.Doesn't he care about his real fans?
Have your say
