Dizzee Seeks Prodigy
Rapper says he'd like to team up with The Prodigy for his next project
06 Sept 2009 - As Dizzee Rascal prepares to release his fourth studio album, he tells 6 Music he hasn't sold out on this one.The East London rapper has already scored two number one hits from Tongue 'N' Cheek, which is released tomorrow. His collaborations with Calvin Harris on Dance Wiv Me and Armand Van Helden on Bonkers both flew to the top of the charts and have been huge anthems at festivals all over the world this summer.
Dizzee says that while many people think he’s moving into the mainstream with his new material, tracks such as Bonkers are, in his mind, far from easy listening:
"It is dirty. Very very dirty. That’s why I like it. A lot of people think I've gone towards the mainstream but it is very gritty. It's amazing that it made it onto radio to be fair because it's so dirty."
"It is dirty. Very very dirty. That’s why I like it. A lot of people think I've gone towards the mainstream but it is very gritty." Dizzee Rascal
But whilst the music might be 'dirty', Dizzee stressed that the lyrics aren't going to offend anyone. He said it’s the sort of feel-good album you could have playing at any party:
"You can leave it playing over and over again. There's nothing too heavy as in subject on there. There are a couple of things that are going on with the government and things like that. But on the whole it's pretty nice."
It sounds like Dizzee's up-beat attitude and positive outlook comes from an unlikely source:
"I never really liked house but now I'm older and I've been to Ibiza and places like that I get it. Loads of pretty girls, no-one wants to kill eachother, everyone's happy. It's wicked."
Never one to sit still the rapper is already planning his next project and there's one act he's especially hoping to team up with:
"I think a good collaboration would be The Prodigy. I've been saying that for a while but I just know for that next level of banging sound, I know I could get that from them. What Prodigy do, what they've been doing for the past however long, they are the pinacle of rave for me."
