Spinnerette singer reveals late night cover sessions with Josh Homme
16 July 2009 - Ex-Distillers frontwoman Brody Dalle has revealed to 6 Music that she has recorded a series of covers with her husband and Queens Of The Stone Age singer Josh Homme.

The pair have been holding late night sessions in their LA family studio, Pink Duck.

"When we get the chance we go into our studio at night and record covers together," she said. "The last one we did was a Creedence Clearwater Revival cover.

"As for whether we actually release anything, at this point in our lives everything is so crazy. I don't know if we have the time but we both have the desire."

The singer recently wrapped up sessions in the studio with her new band Spinnerette which also features former Distillers guitarist Tony Bevilacqua, Alain Johannes, who previously played bass and guitar on Queens Of The Stone Age's 2005 album Lullabies To Paralyze and Jack Irons, who once drummed with the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"It's a world class studio, it’s a kind of off the hook place," she enthused.

"I love vintage wallpaper and Josh's grandmother is a painter and she's got her art all over the wall.

"There are a lot of collectables and there's a signed picture of Jimi Hendrix. It's amazing, its totally designed for relaxation and making music."
"I thought I would be playing in The Distillers until I was 80" -  Brody Dalle

Her current band are more melodic and polished than her previous punk outfit who endured a bitter split in 2006 after recording three albums (The Distillers, Sing Sing Death House and Coral Fang).

"I felt like in The Distillers it just creatively came to an end, nobody was feeling it anymore," she admits.

"It was an acrimonious split, (drummer) Andy (Granelli) and I are friends so it was a shock when he left to join Darker My Love.

"Back then I was so young I didn't ever think about what was going to happen in the future because I never thought The Distillers would break up. I thought I'd be doing it until I was 80."

The singer set about forming a new group with the help of her Distillers bandmate Tony Bevilacqua but when she fell pregnant shortly after, Spinnerette were put on ice.

"I talked about starting a new band and then I got pregnant five months later, so I had to stop making music," she said. "I didn't have a choice anymore.

"After my daughter was born I started demoing with Alain again and Spinnerette took off."

The band recently released their self-titled debut and they're currently touring the UK.

"I love the fact that I'm making music that is so vastly different," Dalle added. "It's a lot more fun for me."
