Julian Casablancas

Strokes solo album

Julian Casablancas becomes the fourth member to release a side project
15 July 2009 - The Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas has announced plans to release a solo album.

The singer has recorded eight songs for the record entitled Phrazes For The Young and it is due out in the autumn.

Casablancas is the fourth Stroke to release a solo album after guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture and drummer Fab Moretti.

Songs slated to appear on the album, which was recorded over the last 12 months in Los Angeles, New York and Nebraska, include River Of Brake Lights, Glass and Ludlow St.

Casablancas will also embark on a solo tour to coincide with the album's release.

The record was produced by Rilo Kiley knob twiddler Jason Lader, with additional production from Bright Eyes Mike Mogis.

Aside from collaborating with Santigold, Pharrell Williams and Gnarls Barkley mastermind Dangermouse, Phrazes For The Young is Casablancas' first solo material away from The Strokes.

The New York five-piece have been on a hiatus since the release of their 2005 album First Impressions Of Earth.

It is unclear when the band will release the follow-up to their third album.
