T in the Park: day 3

Scotland's biggest music festival ends with Elbow, Keane and Pet Shop Boys
12 July 2009 - The final day of the T in the Park festival unfolds today as 85 000 fans anticipate headline performances from the likes of Snow Patrol, Blur, Lily Allen and Keane.

Scotland's biggest music festival in Balado, Kinross-shire will also see sets from Mogwai, Elbow, Doves and The Pet Shop Boys amongst others.

Tragedy on Friday evening

But the event was tinged with sadness after it emerged that a teenager was killed in a road accident outside the grounds.

Seventeen year old Lachlan Gillies from Errol, Perthshire, died after he was hit by a lorry outside an entrance to the festival on Friday evening.

His mother, Judith Gillies, said: "He was a great lad who lived a great life. I'm very sorry it was so short."

Reports today say the teenager was outside the festival grounds because he had lost his ticket and was trying to get another one.
"No wellies, Yippee!" -  Caroline McKay, Glasvegas

Glasvegas and Florence and the Machine

Yesterday in King Tut's Wah Wah Tent, Scottish natives Glasvegas took to the stage before headliners Manic Street Preachers.

Drummer Caroline McKay reckons the weather has been good to them: "It's amazing to have the sunshine in Scotland, no wellies, yippee! I love T in the Park, I think it's one of the best festivals in Britain."

Elsewhere yesterday Florence and the Machine headlined the Futures Stage. The debut album from the Brit's Critics Choice winner is set to challenge The Essential Michael Jackson in this week's chart.

Speaking to the BBC at T in the Park Florence admits it's all quite overwhelming: "I wasn't ever someone who expected to have commercial success so being in the charts is an incredible thing whether it's number one or number anything, I will be happy."

Calvin Harris and White Lies

Calvin Harris kicked off proceedings on the main stage yesterday ahead of James Morrison, Paolo Nutini, James, The Specials and headliners The Killers.

He reckons he got the crowd into the spirit of things: "Proper Mr Motivator stuff. Hands in the air, jump up and down, make some noise, all the classics! And it went off a treat, I'm not a gym kind of guy as I'm sure you can tell. It's tough, it took it out of me definitely."

Chart toppers White Lies played just before Katy Perry on the Radio 1/ NME Stage, they say the Scottish fans are a unique bunch: "Scottish heritage has always been about quite barbaric behaviour, whether that's running down the country to invade England or going crazy at a gig, they always do it in style.

Some of the best gigs we've ever had have been in Scotland."
