The Streets Mike Skinner

The Streets finale

Mike Skinner says Twittering fifth album has made songs come easily
08 July 2009 - The Streets mastermind Mike Skinner has recently been posting new songs on his Twitter account and said putting them out there has given him more confidence.

The musician is currently working on what he’s said is his last Streets effort, titled Computers And Blues.

As for why he plans to wrap things up, Skinner replied: "Just to keep it tidy really, just so that it’s like, there it is, five albums.  If I kept going forever, it would just all start to get repetitive."
"It just feels really easy, compared with all the other albums."

According to Skinner, his fifth offering will be "dark and futuristic", slated for release in February 2010.

The rapper admitted that in leaking some of the new songs onto the social networking phenomenon Twitter, the album-making process has been a lot simpler.

"I’ve done loads of songs," he explained. "I probably need to nail about four or five more and it just feels really easy, compared with all the other albums, because you get a confidence much earlier on in the process by just throwing it out there.

"They were only demos really, because I didn’t know whether they were good enough."

Music to film

The big question is, ‘What will Mike Skinner turn his hand to next?’ His answer, the world of moving pictures.

"I feel great. It’s [The Streets] a certain part of who I am really, but I think I’d like to modify that with new projects," he revealed. "I’d like to write a film."

Skinner said he wants to write the script to a film and would probably score it too.

He later revealed the foundations are already built: "We’ve been doing a lot of music videos, TV stuff so we’ve kind of got a little team going on that I’d like to channel into a short film and then feature length."
