Beck's Record Club

Award-winning musician puts Velvet Underground & Nico covers online
06 July 2009 - American singer-songwriter Beck has posted online a cover of The Velvet Underground’s Femme Fatale, from his Record Club series.

His plan is to record new takes on classic albums in just one day, without previous rehearsals, with various collaborators.

At beck.com, you can hear the first fruits of his labours, his interpretations of the influential 1967 album, The Velvet Underground & Nico.

Various artists that have joined Beck Hansen this time include Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker, Brian Lebarton, Bram Inscore, Yo, Giovanni Ribisi, Chris Holmes, and from Iceland, Thorunn Magnusdottir.

A track is due to be uploaded once a week to the website.

The series currently features the collective’s interpretation of Sunday Morning, a discordant Waiting For My Man - which features un-tuned instruments - and the latest, Femme Fatale.

More collaborations are expected in the future, with MGMT rumoured to take part.
