Raucous Klaxons
Band promise ‘raw’ album but not in 2009
17 June 2009 - Klaxons are happy with the progress on what they’re calling a ‘raucous’ second album, but it could be 2010 before we get to hear the finished product.Speaking exclusively to 6 Music, Jamie Reynolds and James Righton from the band said they’ve got a stack of new material that’s ready to be made into an album.
“We’d really like to put out the first great record of the 2010s rather than the last great one of this decade. Now that’s become an aspiration and a goal,” Jamie said.
The follow up to Myths of the Near Future has been in production since early 2007, when the band recorded tracks with producer Tony Visconti.
Subsequently Klaxons chose not to continue working with Visconti, a long-time producer of David Bowie.
Previously Simian Mobile Disco’s James Ford, who produced their debut album, told 6 Music he’d done some production work on new Klaxons tracks, but the band said they’re now looking for a producer for the whole project.
“We’ve now got 28 songs and we’re just about to put it together as a complete record. We’re looking for a producer and if anyone out there makes records, give us a bell,” Jamie said.
Ford told 6 Music back in February that some of the new tracks are “quite psychedelic,” and tracks like Valley of the Calm Trees, that they played at secret gigs in London that month, certainly point in that direction.
“We’ve taken it to the next stage and it’s rawer and simpler and as we were at our best. We’ve stripped the complication and we’re back to being raucous,” said Jamie.
New tracks Klaxons have played live recently include Moonhead, Imaginary Pleasures, In Silver Forest and Valley Of The Calm Trees.
Meanwhile fans who want a taste of what’s to come may get it at the band’s festival dates across Europe this year.
“We’ve got gigs every other weekend and we’re going to be trying out most of the album,” said James. “That’s been one of the best things, being able to try it and see what the reaction’s like. It’s been good to see that some of the new ones have gone down really well.”
Klaxons play at Ejekt festival in Athens on Friday. Their next UK date is supporting Blur at the Manchester arena on 26 June.
