Radiohead man’s label
New company set to challenge others in the digital age
05 July 2009 - Radiohead's manager Brian Message, MAMA Group and artist management firm, Nettwerk Music Group are planning to take on the majors by launching their own record label. The new company called, Polyphonic, will give artists and managers money to start their business without going to a traditional label.
It will allow musicians to keep their copyright with digital releases being at the forefront.
The group plan to look at innovative ways to release music digitally, even if it means giving an album away for free.
Both new and established artists will be targeted and there could be more releases like Radiohead's 2007 album, In Rainbows, which was available to download at a price decided by the customer.
Adam Driscoll the co-chief executive said the label would more than likely offer a 50/50 profit sharing deal while established artists would probably keep a bigger share.
