SFA produce Rascals

Miles Kane reveals plans to work with Gruff Rhys on their second album
22 April 2009 - The Rascals are currently writing their second album and look set to head into the studio with the Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys.

Speaking to 6 Music, Miles Kane said: “We’re gonna be trying some stuff with Gruff. We’ve got to set the date and that but yeah, I’m very excited to try it with him and see where we go because I really respect him and he’s a nice fella.”

They plan to go into the studio to record the follow-up to Rascalize over the summer and Kane said they’re headed in a different direction.

“It’s quite fresh sounding, quite Lennon-like, T-Rex. It’s got a bit of a summer vibe to it as well, quite different,” he explained.

As for the recording location, he said they’re planning on finding somewhere that befits the sunny sounds of the new material.

“We hopefully want to go away to somewhere like Wales, somewhere green, and make a boss record,” added Kane.

“It’s been good to get away from the gigging and the madness of it all, to chill and really concentrate, get your head down and write some songs.”

Ivor nod

Before The Rascals debut was released (June 2008), Kane teamed up with Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys as The Last Shadow Puppets to release their Mercury Prize-nominated album The Age Of The Understatement.

Their song, My Mistakes Were Made For You, is in the running for the prestigious Ivor Novello award for Best Song, it was announced yesterday.

The Last Shadow Puppets are pitted against Elbow’s One Day Like This and The Last Of The Melting Snow by The Leisure Society.

Kane was thrilled with the news and said: “I’m very chuffed. We got the letter through the post. It’s a very prestigious thing to even be considered, so thank you Ivor. It’d be boss to win it.”
