Florence names album
Singer exclusively tells 6 Music what her much anticipated debut is called
26 March 2009 - The first LP from the hotly tipped outfit Florence And The Machine is to be called Lungs.A song with a similar name, Between Two Lungs, will feature on the record by the 2009 Critics Choice Brit Award winner.
The lady behind the music, Londoner Florence Welch, told 6 Music: “It’s called Lungs and we were trying to think of acronyms for that; so we were thinking of Love Unrequited Never Gets Saved or Living Under New Great Sadness or things like that.”
As for how she decided upon that title, the spirited singer explained: “I just sort of thought of it and I was like that’s what it’s gonna be called.
“There’s something about machine lungs and it reminds me of iron lungs. It’s physical, but also when you’re a singer it’s all about controlling your lungs and they become part of your body’s machinery. It’s all about controlling your air and they’re so central to singing.”
She added: “I’ve just become really obsessed with them as an image but also they’re kind of weird and fleshy. They’re all over the place.”
Fans should not have to wait much longer as Florence also revealed the album is due for official release in June.
She's worked on it with two super producers James Ford and Paul Epworth.
In recent months she was picked to perform around the UK on the NME Awards Tour, took to the stage at the Royal Albert Hall with Antony And The Johnsons for the Teenage Cancer Trust series opening night (24 June) and has a sold out tour kicking off in May.
