Bogus Blikk Fang

Of Montreal warn fans to ignore songs claiming to be their side project with MGMT
11 February 2009 - MGMT and Of Montreal have called on their fans to ignore a series of “bogus tracks” that have surfaced on the internet attributed to their side project Blikk Fang.

Andrew Van Wyngarden and Kevin Barnes have been working on material together for some time but none of it has actually surfaced, according to the Of Montreal singer.

"It’s total garbage, it’s a total lie, those songs aren’t even Blikk Fang songs," Barnes said. "The one song is like a Misfits cover that I did as a b-side four years ago, which is nothing to do with Andrew, and the other song is a demo he made in his dorm room three or four years ago."

He spoke out after a series of tracks going under the Fang moniker including, Just A Little Judas Tonic and Nupital Eagles Sharpened, surfaced online.

The flamboyant frontman explained that they have “a bunch of fragmented ideas” for the project, which he described as "tender prog, cosmic disco".
"I would love to focus more on Blikk Fang this year but it's been hard."

Explaining how the collaboration came together, Barnes added: "We’ve been friends for a long time.

"He (Van Wyngarden) is one of my favourite song writers in the world and I’ve always been very supportive of him and very excited about his art."

However, the band are still a long way off putting an album together, but they are hoping to start work on it when they finally get some time off from their respective bands.

He added: "I would love to focus more on Blikk Fang this year but it’s been hard because we both travel so much and we’re both so busy with our own things. We’re slowly putting something together."
