05 December 2008 - Mumford and Sons, White Lies and Florence And The Machine have made the shortlist for the BBC Sound of 2009 list.

It was collated by 130 of the UK's top music critics and broadcasters and the winner is due to be revealed in January right here on 6 Music.

Here is the shortlist:

The Big Pink
Dan Black

Adele was voted number one in last year’s poll with Duffy, The Ting Tings and Glasvegas following behind.

Little Boots is amazing... first saw her support Ladyhawke at Roadhouse, Manchester and thought she was amazing... a breath of fresh air on the pop scene... go Boots!! <3

NYC NYC
Master Shortie...1st global UK Hip Hop phenom...and VV Brown is a cutie..

Blanford, Nottingham
Love empire of the sun and Passion Pit. Defo think one of these 2 should win. Florence and the machine is too well know . Also think VV Brown will do well. Love the song Crying Blood.

White Lies. End of.

Stalky - Glenrothes, Fife
Florence and the Machine can have no chance of winning, because word is already out and the album will be massive (so exclusion from the final list is inevitable)Sounds like Amy McDonald smacked into Siouxie Soiux in the Hedron Collider. Genius

DMC, London
I'd suggest Little Boots, Elinor Rose Dougall and Gillan Edgar.

I don't know why its taken the UK so many years to appreciate home grown talent Dan Black ...The Servant were wicked and although they had big success in France and Italy, we could only watch them in small venues in London. Sp pleased for Dan Black now ...finally!
