No Coldplay Record

Despite the no.1 spot the band have not beaten Oasis yet
16 June 2008 - Coldplay’s fourth album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends may be number one in the UK album charts but it has not broken any records just yet.

Oasis are currently holding the title for the most album sales in a week with their record Be Here Now.

Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends is the band's fastest-selling album to date, selling over 302,000 copies in three days after its release on Thursday 12 June.

However, it has not yet topped their last album X&Y’s first week of sales.

Gennaro Castaldo, of music retailer HMV, told 6 Music: "Coldplay have sold as many albums in three days as most big artists sell in three months.

"They have the broadest appeal of any band around in terms of combined record store, online and download sales, and are already certs to have the biggest release of 2008."
"Coldplay have sold as many albums in three days as most big artists sell in three months."
