Charlatans: Roots

Tim Burgess talks about new album
12 May 2008 - The Charlatans’ new album You Cross My Path is out today (12 May) and front man Tim Burgess explained it's an album that looks back to their roots.

The band has been about for a decade and is currently on a tour – ending at Manchester Academy on 24 May.

Speaking to 6 Music, Tim said: “Think it’s probably the most Manchester sounding record since the first one in a lot of ways and it was written in Los Angeles so it’s kind of like from an LA perspective really.

“But not craving to go back but in a way this is it – an element of nostalgia in there I think that you can only write 10 years after your first album.”

Tim Burgess went on to say he couldn't pick his favourite track on the record.

“I can’t pick one because it’s so new,” he said. “You Cross My Path I suppose is the one that I guess we came out fighting with.

“That was the one that was punching its way out of a brown paper bag!”

And you can hear more from the interview in the music week pod cast.
