We bump into Tom on the streets of London

15 Feb 08 - Kasabian are just one month away from completing their next record. Frontman Tom Meighan confirmed the news exclusively to 6 Music whilst he was out shopping in London this week.

By pure coincidence Tom had been loitering by a boutique clothes shop on the night (13 Feb) Black Francis took to The Social in London for a special pre-core show.  I happened to walk by, and got the full update from Tom on how the follow up to 2006’s Empire was progressing:

“I am down from Leicester for the day buying jeans and doing some meetings with management; Serge is back home getting all the bits of our album together and we are getting another guy in to get it finished by the end of the month - we have to get this record done.”

Concept album

Tom went on to confirm that the record would be a concept album, he said: “It all joins together which is beautiful, there’s no gaps in it, it’s very psychedelic, there’s very much elements of the first but it’s a more distant sounding Kasabian than we have been with the last two albums.”

A very excited Tom almost gave the title away but then back tracked and admitted it would be a strange one:

“It’s a loony title mate, but we have a couple of titles and we have picked one that has lots of words, it’s a tongue twister!”

According to Tom the first single from the album will be out by April or May of this year and with that a series of festival slots would follow, “we want to do all of them”, he said, before jumping in a cab with his friend and a pile of shopping bags, his destination? A studio in Leicester of course.
