Does Robbie Williams work hard enough for his pay?

Robbie Rebels

Singer protests at EMI job cuts
11 Jan 08 - Robbie Williams is striking over job cuts at his label EMI and is reportedly withholding his next album.

It’s thought the record was set to come out in September and he is refusing to hand it over to record bosses after the label was taken over by private equity firm Terra Firma.

His manager Tim Clark told The Times he wouldn’t be giving it to them because he had no idea how the label would handle it.

Earlier this week it was reported Coldplay and Kylie Minogue may follow the example of Radiohead and Sir Paul McCartney who have already left EMI.

The UK chief executive at the label - who signed many of their current stars - also left the company on Tuesday after 25 years. It's reported Macca who worked with him closely sent him a letter of support this week, and Coldplay are also said to be upset about the departure of Tony Wadsworth from the company.

Williams seems to be leading the protest charge, and rumours are circulating that Chris Martin and Co may follow suit and withdraw their 4th forthcoming album Prospekt.

Williams's manager Tim Clark added:

"The question is, 'Should Robbie deliver the new album he is due to release to EMI? We have to say the answer is 'No'. We have no idea how EMI will market and promote the album.”

EMI was unavailable for comment.
