Shins Star Freed

Marty Crandall released from custody
08 Jan 08 - Following his arrest on Friday night, Marty Crandall, multi-instrumentalist from American indie stars The Shins, has been released from jail.

Crandall [second from left] was reportedly detained on a domestic-violence charge after an altercation with his girlfriend Elyse Sewell, one of the stars of US television fashion show "America's Next Top Model"

However, Crandall and Sewell were released from custody on Saturday (January 5) and neither had been formally charged.

Bizarrely, Sewell posted a message titled "Worst Weekend Olympics" on her LiveJournal.com webpage talking about the incident. The post has since been blocked but reportedly included photos of Sewell with bruised arms and bloodied knuckles.

On Sunday afternoon - after being released from jail on Saturday - Sewell posted another message on LiveJournal.com which reads,

"I'm feeling much better on this new day (after sleeping until noon). I've decided to heed the advice of many commenters (lawyerly types) and friends — lock my last entry about the legal foibles between me and my ex-boyfriend."

In addition, The Shins' record label, Sub Pop, have issued a statement which reads;

"Marty Crandall and his ex-girlfriend Elyse Sewell were both arrested over the weekend following an argument at a Sacramento hotel which resulted in hotel staff calling the police.

"They were both taken into police custody and released over the weekend. There will be no further comment at this time and we would appreciate their privacy being respected."

The case is still under investigation, according to the Sacramento County district attorney's office and Crandall and Sewell are due back in court later today (Tuesday January 8).
