Radiohead sign deal
They've teamed up with British indie label XL
31 Oct 07 - After weeks of speculation Radiohead have confirmed they've struck a deal with indie label XL Recordings for the physical release of new album, In Rainbows.Very little detail about this groundbreaking deal's being given but its expected to cover territories outside North America, leaving the band free to sign a separate deal there.
"Radiohead are a constant inspiration to us all, because they unfailingly put creativity first."XL boss Richard Russell has spoken about the deal, saying:
XL Founder, Richard Russell
"Radiohead are a constant inspiration to us all, because they unfailingly put creativity first. XL is more than honoured to be working with Radiohead."
The label's Managing Director Ben Beardsworth added:
"Radiohead have created a huge amount of excitement via the unique way in which they launched this campaign online.
"In Rainbows is truly a classic album and it deserves to reach a massive audience, well beyond that of download and boxset sales. We will be working closely with them to help deliver that."
A spokesman for the band told 6 Music he couldn't give a release date for the physical CD yet, but there's speculation it'll coincide with the Dec. 3rd arrival of the £40 discbox of In Rainbows.
The band tore up the rulebooks when they made In Rainbows available for download earlier this month with fans able to name their own price.
No sales figures have been released, but the band's manager Bryce Edge told Billboard recently that reports of 1.2 million were "exaggerated."
