Q Award nominations
Arctics, Kaisers and Muse lead the field
12 Sept 2007 - The nominations for this year's Q Awards have been announced, but there are no big surprises.(Featuring Manics, Kate Nash, Athlete and Hard-Fi)
Arctic Monkeys, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers and Muse are all up for 3 awards each, with the most prestigious category - Best Act In The World Today - contested by The Killers, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Muse and U2.
The Kaiser Chiefs are up for three awards: Best Track and Best Video for Ruby, and Best Album for Yours Truly, Angry Mob. Ricky said the prize they have their eye on is Best Album, and told us how they compare to their fellow nominees Arctic Monkeys, Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire and Manic Street Preachers: "Obviously I think we are the best, that's only natural. Not that we are the best, but if you're in a band you should think your the best, I don't think its arrogant or egotistical - you should always be positive about what you're doing, so I'm pretty positive."
Hard Fi are up for Best Track for Suburban Knights, and the band told us why they think this song has won people over: "The fact that it's really really good, it's got an all inclusive vibe about it, to go (sings) Oo Oo Ooo and all that."
Athlete are also up for Best Track for Hurricane, think their strongest competition comes from the Muse' song Knights Of Cydonia - but frontman Joel's not happy about the choice of track: "That's my least favourite song of theirs, they deserve it, and I am a Muse fan, but it's unfortunate they have been nominated for Best Track for that track, because they have plenty of better ones."
They reckon awards voted by fans are their best: "We never get anything decent from music journo's anyway, it's better if its come from the readers, we have more of a chance like this than the other way."
