Kerrang Awards revealed

It's Enter Shikari's year
23 Aug 2007 - Some of the biggest names in rock music gathered together at the Truman Brewery in east London to toast their achievements and to enjoy the party.

Enter Shikari capped an awesome year by picking up two gongs. The St Albans’ DIY rave-metallers walked away with Best Live Band and the Kerrang! Spirit of Independence, which was presented by host and Anthrax godfather Scott Ian.

They beat American heavyweights My Chemical Romance, who also received four nominations. The New Jersey emo-rock outfit walked away with Best International Band. Currently on tour in the US, Gerard Way and co. accepted via video message.

Welsh arena rockers Lostprophets took away Best British Band, beating Muse, Enter Shikari, Biffy Clyro and Funeral For A Friend for the top honour.

The award for Best British Newcomer went to Gallows, this was a given as the band whose frantic take on punk/hardcore has won them legions of fans since bursting onto the UK music scene this year.

Best Single went to US rockers 30 Seconds To Mars for ‘The Kill’. Fronted by actor Jared Leto, the band has won over many rock converts through touring with Linkin Park and The Used.

Nine Inch Nails also made a special appearance to accept the Kerrang! Icon from Juliette Lewis, in honour of their longevity and success. From the dark synth beats of 1989’s ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ through to the evil macabre of ‘The Downward Spiral’ and latest album ‘Year Zero’, Nine Inch Nails have continued to make their mark on rock music and are set to show their amazing live performance skills at this year’s Reading/ Leeds festival.

Capping off the evening’s festivities was the award for Kerrang! Hall Of Fame which last year went to Slayer. For 2007, this trophy was won and received by the heavy metal legends that are Judas Priest. Rob Halford’s Birmingham ‘metal gods’ picked up their award from Kerrang! editor Paul Brannigan to well deserved applause.
