Macca Gets Electric

Legend unleashes new album in London
08 June 07 - Paul McCartney played a storming set at the Electric Ballroom in London, leaving fans with no doubt he still has it.

The Beatles legend unleashed five new tracks from his new solo album Memory Almost Full, including Only Mama Knows and new single Dance Tonight, which McKenzie Crook and Natalie Portman star in the video for.

The gig was one of Macca's most intimate for a long time and 6 Music caught up with the star just before hand:

"It's very much smaller, but it's probably as exciting or even more exciting, 'cos you see the whites of their eyes you know. I used to play a lot of gigs like this, so I'm looking forward to getting back, back to where you once belong!"

Sir Paul paid tribute to his deceased wife Linda and Beatles bandmates John Lennon and George Harrison during his set which included 13 Beatles classics, including Hey Jude  which inspired a mass sing along, and Drive My Car  which he opened with.

The crowd was made up of prize winners and celebrity guests, including his daughters Stella and Mary,  Pink Floyd's David Gilmour, guitar legend Jeff Beck, and actors Pierce Brosnan, Kate Moss and Mackenzie Crook.

Macca also covered Carl Perkins' rock'n'roll classic 'Matchbox'.
