Stones not cheap

Legends demand a million
17 May 07 - We can exclusively reveal why the Rolling Stones aren't on the bill for this year's Glastonbury festival in June.

Glastonbury booker Martin Elbourne told us that unfortunately the band demand a million pounds for their performance and that's simply too much for the Somerset-based event.

However, the Stones are playing the Isle of Wight festival, playing the main stage on Sunday 10th June, as part of the European leg of their 'Bigger Bang' tour.
"Mick likes his cash"   -  Martin Elbourne

This comes on the same day that Mick Jagger has hit back at claims by ex-wife Jerry Hall that he was "tight" with money.

Hall had told the Evening Standard that Jagger was "pretty tight with the day to day stuff", but Jagger told The Times the claims were "absurd" and that he had been more than happy to pay for the "lion's share of the costs relating to her lifestyle and all the expenses for the children".

shortsighted, greedy, moneygrubbing old farts. a pr disaster. if they had dropped the fee down they would have stood to gain more from the extra exposure to a younger market that is not so familiar with them. particularly bearing in mind the tv exposure on the glastonbury programme broadcast.
