Gorillaz: The End

Albarn speaks out on group's future
19 Apr 07 - Damon Albarn has confirmed that Gorillaz will not release any more studio albums.

The Blur frontman says that he will compose a score for a Gorillaz movie featuring the cartoon band, and that will be the final Gorillaz record. Terry Gilliam has been linked with the film project and some reports suggested - slightly confusingly - that the cartoon band members will act as other characters, instead of playing themselves.

Speaking to Steve Wright on Radio 2, Albarn said: "We're trying to make a film next, starting in September hopefully."

Asked about the next Gorillaz album, he said: "It will be a film score. There won't be another pop record."

Albarn added that he did not set out to make Gorillaz a global pop success. "When we made the first Gorillaz record, we had no idea it was going to be a pop record," he said. "You don't make records with that in mind. They become that if the public love them."

Asked about whether Blur are still together, Albarn said cryptically: "I really don't know. I think it's possible that we might be. But I'm not entirely sure we are."
