Glastonbury 2004

175,000 sign up for Glasto

Michael Eavis says new system's working
22 Feb 07 - There's now less than a week left to register for this year's Glastonbury festival.

The new system means you have until 28 February to get your photo ID into organisers - go to www.bbc.co.uk/glastonbury. Michael Eavis says the numbers have been clocking up, although so far just about enough have signed up to match the festival's capacity suggesting that some people are leaving it until late in the day.

Michael Eavis told 6 Music: "175,000 have gone through as of today - and it's going through at about 600 an hour."

He added: "It's a pretty high number, really. People have been very good about it. Not too many complaints and it means we can forget about touting forever."

Organisers have made a licence application for an expanded capacity of 177,500 people. Mendip District Council will make a decision on 26 March, a week before tickets go on sale. Michael Eavis says the council is pleased with the photo ID system which is designed to stamp out ticket touts.

The Who, Arctic Monkeys and Bjork are among the acts who will appear on Michael Eavis' farm from 22-24 June. He also told 6 Music that Smokey Robinson is set to confirm an appearance.

disapointed of hove.
apparently they have also decided to extend the cut off date for registration, what is the point of havign a cut off date if you then change it. If people were stupid enough to have not registered by the end of the month they shouldnt be able to, it just means more people have the potential to crash the web site and the phone networks when the tickets go on sale in April.
