Exclusive: Interpol return
Dan talks to Lamacq
16 Feb 07 - Interpol's founder member Dan Kessler has spoken exclusively to 6 Music about the band's return and highly anticipated third album. Its been three years since the last Interpol album proper, Antics was released, and he told Steve Lamaq he's in the UK mixing its follow-up:
"I wrote a lot of songs on my own, and then when we got together in January. We just kinda started going through songs, building them up. There was a really good energy to it. We really need to take a break at the end of touring. Everyone needed to return to their own lives, just get back to normal living, so it was a good energy when we picked it up."
The new album is out in June. Since 2004, the Remix EP was released, the band changed labels and saw some of their material included on TV show soundtracks (Six Feet Under, The O.C).
"With this record, I think, anything goes."
Dan, Interpol on new album
"With this record, I think, anything goes. We're a lot more open. It sounds like Interpol. It sounds like our tunes, but there's a lot more atmosphere and sound in general, rather than just filling it up with guitars all the time."
Recording took place in New York, a city whose hectic pace added to the recording process:
"New York's a world of distractions, and when you're making a record, that can be a very bad thing or a good thing. I think at this point in our lives, it was a good thing."
