The Police return

Band confirm world tour
12 feb 07 - The Police have announced they are getting back together to hit the road.

Sting, guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland will kick off the tour on May 28 in Vancouver,  supported by Sting's son Joe Sumner's band, Fiction Plane.

The band gave fans a taster as they opened the Grammy's bash in LA last night slamming out their hit Roxanne  to rapturous applause.

Tour dates in Mexico, South America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand are also expected to be announced soon.

Tickets for the Vancouver show will go on sale this Saturday, while those for the Boston and New York dates will be available from next Tuesday.

At the press conference in West Hollywood's Whisky a Go Go club Sting said:

"Yes, I am certifiably insane. If anybody comes at me with a white coat I'll just let them through. We had such a good time last night we thought we'd dig a few songs out of the vault and rehearse them."

Other North American shows will include a headline performance at the Bonnaroo Festival near Nashville, an appearance at Boston's historic Fenway Park and two dates at New York's Madison Square Garden.

The tour will continue in the autumn in the UK and Europe, including appearances in Holland, Germany, Italy and France, with more countries to be announced.

I'm excited on hearing the news that The Police are back and touring. I hope they come to Jakarta, Indonesia. They are lots of fan of Sting, Andy & Stewart here.

The Police have always been a favourite. Ever since I was a kid in the early 90s I can remember spinning the original 45s that my dad had. I can't believe that I will now have a chance to see them live. Incredible. I saw the video of the 49th Grammys performance and it was excellent. What they did to the second verse of Roxanne was mesmerising. I don't care if it's a cash in or a genuine desire to reignite the music, it sounds good to me.

Chad in Dallas
I saw the garish Synchronicity tour back in the day. Thankfully, last night did not induce flashbacks of that event. If last night was any indication of what we will see on a tour; I'm so in. Stewart was a tad rusty, but otherwise, they sounded great.
