KT Tunstall

Tunstall: "Save planet"

New global campaign
30 Jan 07  - Singer KT Tunstall was behind a campaign that launched today with the aim  of tackling global warming.

Alongside the charity Global Cool she has asked one billion people to each reduce carbon emissions by one tonne a year.

Tunstall is supporting the 10-year campaign because she believes the initiative could put back the point at which the climate becomes irreversibly unstable.

According to Global Cool, if emissions are reduced by one billion tonnes each year it will buy enough time to develop cleaner renewable energy sources.

The group wants people to reduce their carbon footprint by switching to low-energy light bulbs, turning off TVs at the wall and not leaving mobile phone chargers plugged in.

Singer Tunstall, told 6 Music "It was very fitting that when we went to play the Golden Globes party, a fortnight ago, it was the coldest night in L.A’s history, and literally the week before people had been out on the beach, it’s very unusual what is happening at the moment!”

She added at the launch at the British Museum: "The amount of carbon emissions used by a successful music artist is really considerable. But responsibility is spreading."
