The Police reunion?

Rumours are rife
05 Jan 07 - Rumours are still circulating that The Police are planning a full reunion tour for later this year.

According to music sources they will begin rehearsing next month for a jaunt that could kick off as soon as May or June.

2007 is the 30th anniversary of the band and A&M Records is planning some sort of specialty release to honour the occasion.

The label released a statement in December saying that 2007 "is the 30th anniversary of the first Police single. It is our intention to mark the anniversary by doing something special with the band's catalogue of songs. Needless to say, everyone is hopeful the band will support our plans and while early discussions have taken place, nothing has been decided.” A box set and/or a new DVD release is expected to be in the works.

Now, both Harp Magazine and Billboard have been told by sources that the rumours are definitely true, and an announcement could be made later this month.

Formed in the 70’s The Police split up in 1986 and have performed together only twice since: at Sting's wedding in 1992 and at their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.

While Sting has been reluctant to consider a reunion in the past, both Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland have been busy with Police-related projects recently. Summers just published his autobiography, One Train Later, while Copeland directed a well-received documentary on the band, using old footage he had shot on the road in the '80s.

I'm (still) a big fan of their music, but I don't think they could recapture the energy they showed in the late 70's and early 80's. And neither could their audience! Me included.

wow that is cool that they are rumpored to be returning to the music scene, however i am worried that there won't be room for there style of music the industry.

It's got to happen. The Police reign! Sting, leave the lute music alone and come on home, there's a hole in my life!

Being a long time fan of the Police and solo projects, I am excited about this news. I havent seen them play together since 1983 and would love to witness their reunion. Lets hope Sting gives in.

There is a fairly strong belief that the 80s was rubbish for music, I ominate this band as one of the very best British bands of all time, I would love to see them live.

matthew, london
I heard they are going to headline Glastonbury

i hope it comes true. it would be the best gift ever if i could take my husband to the reunion tour!!!!

The biggest problem with the reunion in the past has been the personal relationship between founder Stewart Copeland and Sting the egomaniac. Once this issue can be resolved a reunion project can always be contemplated. Another possible positive factor, leading to a possible reunion in 2007, is the fact that Sting's solo career seems to be running out of steam.
